Tell your browser what to do.

Gofer is a chat panel for your Mac that drives the browser you already use. Ask about the page, hand it a task, and follow up like you would with a person.

Free and open source. Apple Silicon and Intel.

In the browser you use

Dia, Arc, Chrome, Brave or Edge, with your tabs and sign-ins.

Follows the conversation

Say “another one” or “the second” and it knows what you mean.

Asks before it acts

Deleting, paying and sending wait for your OK.

When an agent drives the tab you're in, all you can do is watch.

You stop typing, it clicks around your page, and when it's done your place is gone.

Gofer works in a background tab. Yours stays put.

Keep writing while it searches, compares and fills things in. Show brings its tab forward whenever you want to look.

Show Take over Go back to where I was

It remembers what you were talking about.

Every message is a step-by-step task in your real browser, done by an agent that knows the whole conversation.

Follow-ups

“Another one”, “no, the second”, “now book it”. It avoids what it already tried.

Memory and site notes

“Remember that I fly from Gatwick.” It also learns how each site works.

Answers that show where they came from.

Ask about the page, your other tabs, or anything else. It reads what it needs and says what it read.

Videos and PDFs

Answers cite the moment in the video or the page in the PDF.

The web, without new tabs

When the page can't answer, it searches and names the sites it read.

It asks before anything you can't take back.

Deleting, paying, sending and submitting wait for Allow. Passwords stay in your Keychain and never reach a model.

Use the AI you already have a key for.

Free tiers from Groq and Gemini cover everyday use. Add a few providers and it never waits on one.

Auto

Each request goes to the fastest model that can handle it. When one hits its limit, the next takes over.

A spend meter

See today's estimated cost, and set a daily limit if you want one.

Plus a few extras.

Small things that save a lot of clicks.

Direct mode

One-step commands like “scroll down” or “next tab”, in about a second.

Mention a tab

Type @ to pick open tabs and ask about them together.

Video controls

“Back 10 seconds and play”, “speed 1.5x”. Instant, no AI.

Screenshots

“Send me a screenshot” puts it in the chat and in Downloads.

Tables out of pages

“Copy all invoice numbers as a table”, ready to paste.

Saved requests

Run a finished request again with new values, no AI and no cost.

Forms

“Fill the form with …” fills every field, then waits for you to submit.

Go back to where I was

Puts back the tabs a request opened, closed or moved.

Passwords

Write {{work-login}}. The value comes from your Keychain at the last moment.

Take over

Pause a task to log in or solve a captcha, then hand it back.

Compare tabs

“Which of my tabs is cheapest?” answers with a table.

Voice, if you want it

Hold ⌥ and speak instead of typing. Spoken requests get spoken replies.

It runs on your Mac.

There's no Gofer account and no server of ours in the middle. You bring the keys, and it talks only to your browser and the AI providers you chose.

Free, and open source.

Download it, add a free Groq or Gemini key, and press ⌘⇧Space.

Version 0.4.0. Windows and Linux builds are on the release page, untested so far. Gofer was called Voice Browser until this version.

Questions

Which browsers does it work with?

Dia, Arc, Chrome, Brave and Edge, or a built-in Chromium with its own profile. Pick one in the panel; Gofer reopens it with remote control turned on and your tabs restored. Chrome and Edge don't allow that for your main profile, so they get a separate one.

Do I need an API key? What does it cost?

Yes, at least one. Groq and Google Gemini both have free tiers that cover everyday use, and Z.ai, DeepSeek and OpenRouter work too. The panel shows today's estimated spend, and you can set a daily limit.

Direct mode uses SubQ Snap, which costs about $0.05 per million input tokens.

Can it do things I didn't ask for?

Anything that saves, pays, sends or deletes waits for Allow, and Esc stops a task at any time. Treat that as a safeguard rather than a guarantee: don't connect a browser profile with accounts you wouldn't want an automated click near.

What happens to the tab I'm using?

The panel's header always shows which tab Gofer is working in. When a task needs another site, it opens a background tab instead of taking yours, and Go back to where I was puts your tabs back afterwards.

It got stuck on a login or a captcha.

Press Take over. The task pauses after its current step, you do what's needed in the browser, then Hand back and it looks at the page again and carries on. It asks for this itself when a page needs you.

Does it work on Windows or Linux?

There are builds on the release page, but it's built and tested on macOS. Keychain passwords, Liquid Glass and switching browsers are Mac-only for now.

macOS says it can't check the app for malware.

The app isn't signed with an Apple developer certificate yet. Right-click it in Applications, choose Open, then Open again. You only need to do this once.
